Do Not Drift

Do not drift away from Me,

for the currents would take you

to a different shore,

than the one I am on.

I am preparing food
for you to eat with Me,
to have unhurried time together,
to talk and listen
to each others hearts.

I long for you
to make Me known
in others lives,
but you need to know Me
first
so you do not offer
a pale reflection
of who I truly am.

I long to spend the day
with you,
allowing warm sand
to run between your toes
and Mine,
and to plan for future days
together.

I long to hold you
for a holy moment,
so you know
you are forever held.

Do not drift away

from Me,

but move towards Me

on the shore.

Busy

Come aside with Me

for a while

and

rest.

You are too busy.

You cannot see the beauty around you
only the things that need to be done
urgently.

You cannot hear the birds
as they take time to sing.

Your mind only registers the sirens
amidst the traffic noise.

You are too busy.

I created you
to find rest in Me
and you have forgotten
how to rest.

It is a faintly remembered memory
of something wonderful
yet absent.

A treasure loved and longed for
without a place to stay.

You need to rest.

It is how you were created
Spirit, soul, body.

Sometimes you feel like a crumpled shirt
needing to be ironed smooth again.

Come aside with Me

and

rest

for a while.

By the Sea (Part Three)

I return to the sea in this strange place of sorrow,

where final footfalls touched the good earth before that ill fated voyage.

I sit on Holy Ground.

It's the name of the stone rock beach,

and appropriate I think to honor God's precious creation by such a name.

The local sea water glitters in broken sunlight,

claiming no knowledge of the disaster that took lives from this fair Irish port of Cobh.

It laps gently on the shoreline neighboring jagged stones,

yet to be washed smooth,

and brushed seaweed neat from the outgoing tide.

Jellyfish who missed their moment rue their lot,

now the sun has won against the casting shadow clouds.

The wild freedom of dancing water missed,

splashed against grey stones,

purple round veins signaturing their soon to be lifeless forms.

They must have been travelling as a tight knit group,

for even now they still lie close together,

unable to reach each other over the hard mottled grey.

The fresh water cousin of an iceberg is long gone,

the sea whispers to itself on this sunny afternoon,

knowing full well the crowds flock to this remembrance place.

The intransigent iceberg was a proud force of nature,

and would not give way to the darling attempt of humanity

to be invincible on the sea.

Countless hours of workmanship were appreciated for just four days,

before sinking to the forever darkness below.

I consider the workers, craftsmen, those who built and beautified the ship,

hearing the news with devastation.

The loss of human life,

and all that they had lovingly accomplished.

The pride of man broken,

as it is so often in this life's twists and turns,

that brings unexpected sorrow and so much grief.

I wonder why this disaster has such a hold on our imagination,

when so many other diverse tragedies unfold.

Maybe one reason is that those who stepped from this shore,

near where I now sit,

were full of hope of a new and vibrant life.

It was cut so quickly short,

and ended in the cruelest despair on that clear and cold April night,

as the great Titanic sank from view.

Grace Like Rain

Grace like rain.

It falls on the land
in ever increasing showers.

Dry dust becomes fruitful soil
as the Spirit softens hearts
made stone by years of pain.

Grace like rain.

It is falling all around you,
mingling with the tears
of those who weep for this nation,
and others like it.

Grace like rain.

It torrents down
washing away evil
and all the filth attached to it,
causing faces to shine
with hope restored.

Grace like rain.

It comes to me softly
calling me onward
into His purposes,
falling in love
with Him again.

Grace like rain.

It's coming.

Don't miss it.

Stand with arms outstretched
to receive it all.

Grace like rain.

Ever near
and everlasting.

Grace without end

Amen.

Overnight Success

Ten years from now

I'll become an overnight success.

My talent will be discovered
and I'll be thrust
unwillingly
into the spotlight.

People will ask my opinion
on world issues,
of which I know nothing about,

and ask me to make profound statements,
while selling their products.

I'll declare that fame
will not change me,

and shun celebrity gatherings
as being shallow
and unnecessary.

My friends will be happy for me,
and my enemies
will have some decent ammunition.

"She has become proud
and self seeking."

"I do not think her writing
is any good
at all."

They may be right,

but they will never know

how many days

and hours

and lonely, winding roads

you have to travel

to become

an overnight success.

Freefalling

Freefalling in the Spirit.

That's what it's like when you let go
 and let God.

Letting go of the need to control,
the need to know what's going to happen next,
 at what time,
 and in what place.

Allowing God to steer the ship you are in,
so you feel the rise and fall of the waves,
without having to cling to the tiller for dear life.

 Freefalling in the Spirit.

It's letting go of all the anguish, pain and disappointment,
you've been carrying around in big black bags.

 Being led by the Spirit,
 and blown by the wind,
 not careless and haphazard,
but trusting another to guide you to the right point.

It's being at the top of a water slide and letting go of the edge,
knowing once you start you cannot go back,
 even if you tried,
 twisting and turning and falling,
 but always safe,
always secure that you will end up
where you are meant to be.

 Freefalling.

It's dying to your own desires,
that are so often wrong and muddled
 in the first place,
and letting One wiser and stronger
 than you be in charge
 of the final decisions.

 Freefalling in the Spirit.

It's like nothing I've ever felt before.

Speak to me Lord

Speak to me Lord

and I will listen.

Maybe not today,

because I am particularly busy.

Tomorrow looks good.

I can get up early before work,

unless I'm too tired,

and I sleep through my alarm,

and then have to rush into the day.

You know how it is.

Speak to me Lord

and I will listen.

I will turn off my computer,

and mute my notifications.

I can't put my phone on silent completely,

because someone might need

to contact me urgently.

You know how it is.

Speak to me Lord

and I will listen.

I will have to find a time

when my other half

isn't trying to tell me something,

and the children are asleep.

Maybe late at night would work

really well when our home is quiet.

But I may fall asleep quickly.

You know how it is.

Speak to me Lord

and I will listen.

I think I will have to set aside a whole day,

but I don't believe that is going to happen

for the next couple of months.

My job is intense at the moment.

I can hardly take the weekends off.

You know how it is.

Speak to me Lord

and I will listen.

Definitely on a Sunday morning,

when we go to church,

but sometimes we don't make it.

You know how it is.
